Oxford Dictionaries defines Denouement as “the final part of a play, film, or narrative in which the strands of the plot are drawn together and matters are explained or resolved”.
Just like in a good book, play, movie, or tv show, our lives are filled with intrigue, suspense, action, drama, romance, mystery, humor, and tragedy. Unlike in a fictional story, sometimes our stories don’t resolve in a 30-minute time slot or even with an ending that makes sense. Our stories can get caught deep inside us causing anxiety, depression, panic attacks, flashbacks, loss of identity, self-esteem/self-worth issues, uncomfortable feelings and behaviors, unhealthy relationships with other people, food, alcohol, drugs, money, power, or sex.
Counseling is a place to retell, explore, and bring what resolve is possible to your stories in a confidential environment. There are many ways to engage in your story to bring healing. Brainspotting is a form of treatment that has been around for about 10 years and does not require you to share what you are processing. It is quick, organic, and effective for resolving the negative side-effects of our past or current experiences. Talk therapy and expressive therapy are also effective for beginning healing and resolve to your stories and experiences.
I am excited to sit with you and to work together with you to find the denouement of your story.
